Posted in Poker on 08/10/2023 08:25 am by JessiePhil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
