NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
