Distracting Players

Do you ever obtain that itch? The itch to wager, to head to the nearest gambling establishment, to uncover a superior stakes game of Hold’em, to sit at a Black jack table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I love to scratch it.

I also like to watch people today wager. No 2 poker faces seem equal. When I wager I like to feel I put on a poker face that’s impenetrable. But I know I’ve certain personal habits. For 1, the only time I smoke is when I bet on poker or Chemin de fer. And then I smoke. Except I smoke regardless of whether I am succeeding or losing, whether I’ve a great hand or bad.

I once played inside a weekly poker game. The casino game was usually five card draw. There was a gentleman who wagered with us each week who usually wore a hat. When he was dealt a great hand, unconsciously, he would start touching and betting with his hat. Needless to say, he never won.

The greatest poker gambler I ever saw was a man who produced a lot more actions and gestures at a poker table than anyone I had ever seen. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Often an costly suit and tie, shoes shined and nails manicured. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was usually brushing his pants or rubbings his hands or stacking his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to study him for long periods of time. I would attempt to see if I could notice his tell. Selecting fuzz off his vest- did this imply he was bluffing? Stacking his chips in a very short pile – did this mean he had a great hand?

Several years later I ran into him inside a bar in Chi town and we had a beverage. I asked him if he had been aware of all those actions he manufactured or if they have been subconscious. He informed me that each little thing he did at a poker table was intentional. He said that everyone is generally checking out everyone else’s poker face. They’re trying to detect the the tell.

So his system was to provide them lots to believe about. His reasoning was if they were pondering about him selecting a piece of lint off his vest and what it meant they certain were not pondering about their cards.

His method was diversion. And it worked for him. By no means give up a process that functions for you.
