Stu Ungar is thought to be by many to the very best No Limit Holdem Poker gambler ever.
The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in ‘53 and started betting poker before reaching his teens.
The young gambler started out betting gin and at the age of ten had won his very first gin tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the age of 14 the small poker genius had turned professional and stopped going to school.
In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the history books by succeeding ten thousand dollars in a gin rummy tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still remains in New York today.
The quick speaking superstar has been likened, in poker terms, to sporting superstars like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a true ability for wagering poker except despite his successes in Hold’em poker, he favored wagering gin.
Stu once said that there might a number of day be a better NL Texas holdem gambler than him but he could not see how anyone could ever be a greater gin player.
In ‘80 Stu Ungar was put on the world map as one of the greatest Texas holdem Poker players in the planet when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the 1st time. Amazingly it was the 1st time he had entered the tournament.
The subsequent year he put aside any thoughts that it had been luck, by successfully protecting his crown. And in 1997 Stu set the record by succeeding his third World poker championship.
But this poker master also fought with drug abuse and a year after winning his third title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to medical professionals, he had passed away from a cardiac event which was caused by his lifestyle.
Stu Ungar had started with practically nothing except his skill and natural talent for the game which made this poker wonderful a millionaire a lot of times over.
