Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
